Stanley Fenton, 98, of Grande Prairie
   Stanley Fenton longtime resident of Grande Prairie passed away at the QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie on Friday, July 7, 2000 one week short of his 99th birthday.
   Stanley was born on July 14, 1901 at Great Graigue, Ireland the twelfth of 13 children born to Alexander and Annie Fenton.
   In 1913 he sailed for Canada landing in Montreal then moving on to Saskatchewan where he homesteaded until 1926. Stan and his brother Bob moved to the East Kleskun district and in 1927 they bought a farm there.
   Stan met and married the local school teacher Miss Margaret Hardisty in 1939. From this union came four children David (Lois) Fenton of Grovedale, AB, Terry (Mira) Fenton of Legal AB, Ann (Bob) Russell of Grande Prairie, AB, Larry (Betty) Fenton of Calgary, AB. In December of 1948 Stanley sold out to Bob and moved his family to a farm in the Millet, Alberta area where they resided until 1972, making many new and lasting friendships. In 1972 they retired from farming and he and Margaret moved to a senior citizen apartment called Meadowcroft, in Edmonton.
   Margaret passed away in 1988 and shortly after that Stanley moved to Heritage Lodge in Grande Prairie, Alberta.
   Stanley leaves four grandchildren, Janet (Pete) Plante of Grovedale, Barry (Penny) Fenton of Grovedale, Christopher Fenton of Calgary, Shylah Fenton of Calgary, four great grandchildren, Jason Plante, Amy Plante, Dorian Fenton, and Dustan Fenton, all of Grovedale, plus nieces and nephews in Saskatchewan, Alberta, BC and South Africa.
   Stanley was predeceased by his wife of 49 years Margaret (Hardisty) all of his brothers and sisters and is survived by one sister-in-law, Myrtle (Bob) Fenton of Grande Prairie, Alberta.
   Stanley remained fit until recently and was able to enjoy a long and healthy life. Stan enjoyed playing cards especially Bridge and Cribbage and until his sight and hearing failed him in the last few months could often defeat his family at the games.
   Funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 13, 2000 at 2 p.m. from Oliver’s Grande Prairie Funeral Chapel (10005-107 Ave), Grande Prairie with Pastor Lew Wiegel officiating.
   In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the QEII Hospital Foundation-Palliative Care. Please make cheques payable to the QEII Hospital Foundation

Margaret Chantler Fenton
   On March 5, 1988, Mrs. Margaret Chantler Fenton of 1209 Meadowcroft Apartments for Seniors, beloved wife of Stan Fenton, passed away.
   She leaves to mourn her loss, besides her loving husband; three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Lois of Grovedale, Alberta, Terry and Mira of St. Albert, Larry and Betty of Calgary; one daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Bob Russell of Calgary; four grandchildren, Janet and her husband, Pete Plante of Grovedale, Alberta, Barry and his wife, Laurie Fenton of Grande Prairie, Christopher Fenton and Shylah Fenton of Calgary; two great-grandchildren, Jason and Amy Plante of Grovedale, Alberta.
   A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Meadowcroft Apartments for Seniors, 11445 135 Street. Reverend Dr. Ray E. Leppard will officiate.
   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation at 208 10235 124 Street, to the Canadian Cancer Society at 11810 Kingsway Avenue or to Win House at 11602 40 Street, Edmonton, T5W 2K6.
