NELLIS, Lorna Jeanne.: June 13, 1921 - November 20, 2011  {also on LaValley grave stone page}

Lorna Jeanne Nellis
   Lorna Jeanne Nellis, resident of Grande Prairie, passed away MacKenzie Place in Grande Prairie on Sunday, November 20, 2011, at the age of 90 years, after having battled with Alzheimer’s Disease for her last few years. Lorna was born June 13, 1921 to Nellie (Baker) and Tom LaValley in their family home in Bezanson. From the time Lorna was young, her greatest joy in life was achieved when she was surrounded by her family - her parents and siblings as a child and then her own family.
   Lorna married Lloyd Nellis on October 21, 1942 in St. Joseph’s Rectory in Grande Prairie. Their four children were a great source of happiness and pride. Roger (1943), Marie (1945), Lois (1946) and Sally-Ann (1947) kept their stay-at-home mom very busy. It was while raising her children that Lorna perfected her domestic skills. She loved to sew, crochet, knit, quilt, cross-stitch, garden, can vegetables, fruit and the occasional moose and she could bake a chiffon carke lighter than air. And, she happily shared her talents with any grandchild that was keen to learn! Lorna and Lloyd moved around the province, finally settling once again in Bezanson for their retirement - in a log home that every family member had a hand in building.
   Lorna is survived by her children: Roger (Donna) Nellis, Marie LaCroix (Wayne Johnson), Lois (Norman) Charney and Sally-Ann Sedore; her grandchildren: Valerie (Randy) Montgomery, Cheryle LaCroix (Martin Doll), Robert (Kathy) Dube, Wendy (Etienne) Rondeau, Doug Charney, Lisa (Allen) Gray, Tara Nellis, Roland (Cindy) LaCroix, Darren Charney, Leah Charney Turgeon (Bruce) and Breana (Cam) Dennis; her great-grandchildren: Antoine Rondeau, Kiley-Rae (Kyle) Halwa, Kale Simmons, Renee Dube, Nathan Turgeon, Jordan Sedore, Kira Gray, Rainley LaCroix, Lexi Turgeon, Ava LaCroix, Adam LaCroix and Lauren LaCroix; as well as one great-great-grandchild Ava Halwa. She is also survived by two much loved sisters: Allie Weegar and René Bouchard and two much loved sister in-laws: Ellen (Gavin) Craig and Emily LaValley as well as many very special LaValley and Nellis nieces and nephews.
   She was predeceased by her beloved husband Lloyd, her parents, her brothers Roger LaValley and Fuzz LaValley, her grandson Jim Sedore and her great-great-grandchildren Jolene Rondeau and Marcel Rondeau. Lorna’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff of 1 East in MacKenzie Place for the kindness, compassion and caring they bestowed on Lorna as her life drew to a close.
   A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 1:00pm at Bezanson Community Church.

LACROIX, Theresa Marie (Nellis): April 1, 1945 - February 13, 2018 {also on Lacroix stone page}

Theresa Marie Lacroix
Marie (nee Nellis) Lacroix   It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mom, Marie (Nellis) LaCroix. Born in Grande Prairie, she was raised in Bezanson with her siblings and her many cousins as playmates. As a young lady, she easily made lifelong friends. She always spoke fondly of the carefree years when she attended the GP High School and stayed at the Wapiti Dorm. Marie married very young and had 4 children by the time she was 23. The family moved many times, finally settling in Edson. At the young age of 34, she met the man she would spend the rest of her life with, Wayne Johnson. Marie and Wayne eventually left Edson for Tumbler Ridge BC and finally made the move to their acreage in Bay Tree AB – affectionately known as Dog Patch. Marie and Wayne made some wonderful lifelong friends in Bay Tree. After Wayne passed, Marie moved to a seniors complex in Edmonton and was able to spend a lot more time with her kids and grandkids. She really enjoyed her time there and was becoming a very social person again.
   She unexpectedly became ill and then passed away peacefully on February 13 with her children and granddaughter by her side.
   Marie was predeceased by her parents Lloyd and Lorna (LaValley) Nellis, her grandchildren Jolene and Marcel Rondeau, her step-daughter Tanya Johnson, her sister Lois Charney, her brother Roger Nellis and her common-law husband Wayne Johnson.
   She is survived by her children Valerie (Randy) Montgomery; Cheryle LaCroix– Rainley LaCroix; Wendy (Etienne) Rondeau– Antoine Rondeau; Roland (Cindy) LaCroix–Ava LaCroix, Adam LaCroix, Lauren LaCroix and Kale Simmons.
   She is also survived by her step-son Shawn (Lisa) Johnson–Morgan, Garrett; her brother-in-law Norman Charney and sister-in-law Donna Nellis as well as 3 nieces–Leah, Tara and Breana and 3 nephews–Doug, Darren and Rob.
