COTE, Lillian V.: April 14, 1933 - July 29, 1998 {also on Cote grave stone page}

Lillian Violet Cote, 65, of Calgary
   Our Mom passed away peacefully at her home in Calgary on Wednesday, July 29, 1998 at the age of 65 years.  She was born April 14, 1933 in her parents home near Coalhurst, Alta. She was raised on a dairy farm and at the age of nine had driven a tractor. She was in the 4-H club, loved riding her horse and was an excellent baseball player. In 1950 she wed Felix Cote and left the security of her modern home for the wilds of the Peace Country. They built a home out of a section of wilderness and raised us seven kids. To Mom her kids were her life and her grandchildren also. Mom was the picture of courage. She had the pioneer spirit, taking on the tasks of tending the livestock of a mixed farm, and working long hours in the fields. People said she worked harder than most men. After retiring from the farm in 1984 and moving to Calgary, Mom developed emphysema. With the same courage and determination that she lived her life, she fought the effects of the disease. She lived many years beyond doctors' expectations, only leaving this world when she felt her work was done. Oh, how we will all miss her. She loved us all unconditionally.
   Mom was predeceased by her husband, Felix; daughter, Denise; son, Jay Dale; and her parents, Myrtle and Paul Pontarolo. Surviving are her sisters Pauline, Becky, Janet, Marie, Rose, and brother Ernie; her children: Deborah (John), Blaire (Debbie), Wayne (June), Miles (Joanne), Chris (Georgina), Teena (Barry), 25 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a great many relatives and friends.

Lillian Pontarolo married Felix Cote

COTE, Felix E.: April 7, 1927 - July 19, 1998 {also on Cote grave stone page}

Felix Edmond Cote, 71, of Calgary
   On Sunday, July 19, 1998, our Dad passed on at home, due to a sudden heart attack, at the age of 71 years. He was born in Howie, Alta., on April 7, 1927, and spent his teenage years on the prairie. In 1950 he wed Lillian Pontarolo and moved to the Peace River Country to homestead. In the early years it was a mixed farm with animals, some grain and eventually seven children. To support us all, dad subsidized the farm by working winters on the oil rigs for 20 years. Thus farming and oil rigs became his passions with weather holding most of his conversation. After a heart attack in 1994, Dad and Mom sold the farm, moving to Calgary for four years then back to a small farm in Bezanson until 1997. Recently they moved back to Calgary to be close to children and grandchildren. Dad was a hard working man with a bright outlook on life. He had tremendous energy, never losing his drive. He was the caregiver for Mom for many years, amazing us all with his dedication to the tasks. He recently commented that he "never really gets down". He was one half doctor, giving everyone who came over advice on vitamins and nutrition, then taking their blood pressure. The rest of the time he was chief cook and housekeeper. Dad is predeceased by his father Ralf, daughter Denise, and son Jay Dale.
   Survived by him is his loving wife Lillian; mother, Alice; brothers, Lawrence and Allan and sister Lil; his children: Deborah (John), Blaire (Debbie), Wayne (June), Miles (Joanne, Chris (Georgina) and Teena (Barry); 25 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Friends and relatives are invited to a visitation at Pierson's Funeral Home, 4121-17 Avenue S.E, Calgary on Wednesday, July 23, 1998 from 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church (44 Street and 16 Avenue SE) on Thursday, July 23, 1998 at 11 a.m.
   His love of life and sense of humour will be sadly missed by all. Flowers are gratefully declined. If desired donations may he made in Felix's memory to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation, 1825 Park Road S.E., Calgary, Alta. T2G 3Y6.
   Funeral arrangements are in care of Pierson's funeral home, telephone (903) 235-3602, and
