SARMAGA, Juanita (nee Herrick): October 23, 1923 - March 26, 2017 {also on Herrick grave stone page}

Juanita Sarmaga
   Juanita Sarmaga, longtime resident of Bezanson, AB, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 26, 2017, in Grande Prairie, AB, at the age of 93 years. Juanita was born in Blackie, AB, and raised in the Woking area. She spent her youth living and working around Grande Prairie and settled in Bezanson with her husband Stanley Sarmaga in 1954. Juanita and Stan lived on the Sarmaga farm where they raised three children. Summers were spent farming and picnicking and winters were spent playing cards with the neighbour card club and curling. Juanita enjoyed watching curling right up to her passing. She loved reminiscing about bonspielling in Bezanson. After Stan's death in 1989, she stayed on the family farm until 2016, when she moved to Heritage lodge and then, most recently, to the Grande Prairie Care Centre. People close to her have many stories about how much fun she was to be around. She was always playing practical jokes, playfully teasing her family and caregivers, and laughing. Juanita enjoyed a good outing and eating dessert first. Juanita is survived by her children: Garry (Janet), Don (Don), and Gayle (Carey) Unsworth; 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
   A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 31, 2017, at 2:00pm, at Oliver's Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).    Sadie finished her schooling in Grande Prairie and then teacher training in Normal School in Edmonton, AB.    Sadie and John were strong members and faithful supporters of the various early churches in Bezanson. Sadie taught Sunday School for many years and was a dependable volunteer in a number of positions on their Boards. They attended and supported the Bezanson Community Church until they left the farm and moved to Grande Prairie in 1998.
   Throughout their retirement, Sadie loved exploring new and favorite places with John in their truck and camper, and later in their motorhome. They especially enjoyed Jasper, AB, and the mountains, but made a number of longer trips to visit relatives in Windsor, ON, and Dauphin, MB.
