Thomas Bruce (Tom)
Leslie At the age of 78, Tom passed away at the Red Deer Hospice. Tom will be missed greatly by his daughter Dorothy of Sidney, BC and his son John (Rhonda), grandsons, Nathan and Christopher and great grandchildren, Austin, Braedon, and Chloe all of Red Deer; also his brother Bill and sister, Marion; brother in law George Shields (Joey) and the many nieces and nephews. Tom was predeceased by his wife Marion (Shields), his father Edward & his mother Dorothy (Morrison), his brother Kenneth and sister Margaret. Tom was an entrepreneur and did many things from operating Leslie's Grocery and Drive In on Grande Prairies west side with his mother Dorothy to a Mens Clothing store in Vernon, BC. He sold Chevrolets in Grande Prairie and then in Hythe at his own dealership "Tom Leslie Chev Olds". After the dealership closed Tom tried his hand at Real Estate with George Isberg and crew, then in 1982 he partnered with George Shields and they bought an existing Rental company in Dawson Creek, BC to create Rentco Equipment BC Ltd. Tom also was twice elected to Grande Prairie city council in the early 60’s. Toms many friends in Grande Prairie, Dawson Creek & Red Deer will remember Toms wonderful sense of humour and his loving life attitude. Tom was active in his community & will be remembered by the many community clubs he enjoyed like Kinsmen, Shrine, Masons, & Gyro. Tom retired in 2001 to travel and checked out many destinations both far and near. He later moved to Red Deer to watch the grandkids and great-grandkids grow up. One of Tom's favorite things to do was a weekend breakfast with the family at ABC Family Restaurant in Red Deer. In lieu of flowers Tom asked that donations be made to a charity of your choice. A family Interment will take place Monday, December 9, 2013 at the Glen Leslie Cemetery in the morning. Marion Elizabeth Leslie, 65, of Dawson Creek Marion Elizabeth Leslie (Shields), resident of Dawson Creek, British Columbia, and a former resident of Grande Prairie, Alberta, passed away June 2, 2000 in the Dawson Creek & District Hospital, in her 65th year. Marion was born in Grande Prairie, Alberta, on June 6, 1934, to parents, John and Elizabeth Shields. The funeral will take place at the Bergeron Funeral Chapel, Dawson Creek, at 10:30 a.m. (B.C. time) on Wednesday, June 7, 2000 with a tea to follow. Rentco Equipment, BC Ltd., will be closed from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., to allow staff to join Tom and family. Interment will take place Thursday, June 8, 2000 at the Glen Leslie Cemetery (22 km east of Grande Prairie on Secondary Hwy. 670) at 2 p.m. (Alberta rime). A Remembrance Tea will follow at the Golden Age Centre, 10222-101 Avenue, Grande Prairie, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Peace River Haven in Marion's name would be appreciated. Marion was a telephone operator with AGT in Grande Prairie from 1954 to 1974. She was active with the Kinetic Club while Tom was a member of the Kinsmen Club in Grande Prairie. Tom and Marion moved to Hythe in 1979, and owned Tom Leslie Chev/Olds. In 1982, Tom and Marion moved to Dawson Creek and started Rentco Equipment, BC Ltd. Marion was active with the Daughters of the Nile and enjoyed activities with the Shriners and Gyro Clubs of Dawson Creek. She had been unwell since April 1999, and since September 1999, had been living at the Peace River Haven Nursing Home in Pouce Coupe. She enjoyed the many activities at the Haven, especially the Silver Valley Singers. Marion was pre-deceased by her parents. John and Elizabeth Shields; her brothers, Peter and Herb; her sister, Shirley (Evans), and her sister-in-law, Marjory Shields, She will be remembered by her husband of 45 years, Tom; her daughter, Dorothy: her son, John (Rhonda); her grandsons, Nathan and Christopher; her brother, George (Joey): her numerous cousins, nephews, nieces. and her many friends both in Dawson Creek and in Grande Prairie. The family would like to than the staff of the Peace River Haven, Dr. Steven Ashwell and his office nurse, Carolyn, and the staff at the Dawson Creek Hospital for the care and kindness they gave us during Mom's recent illness.
