MISS ME, BUT LET ME GO

When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me
I want no rites in a gloom filled room;
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss be a little, but not too long,
And not with a head bowed low.
Remember the love that once was shared;
Miss me but let me go.
For this journey we must all take,
And each must go alone.
It is part of the Master’s plan –
A step on the road to home
When you are lonely and sick of heart,
Go to friends we know;
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds
Miss me but let me go.

DORSCHEID, John Eugene: 1909 - 1973 {also on Ames & Dorscheid grave stone page}

John "Jack" Eugene Dorscheid
   Prominent resident passes
   Services were held yesterday for a long-time county councillor whose sudden death March 5 shocked the area. John "Jack" Eugene Dorscheid of the Crystal Creek community, was born March 21, 1909, on his father's farm near Windham, Min. In 1921 Mr. and Mrs. Anton Dorscheid immigrated with their four sons up to the Peace River country, settling in the Crystal Creek community near their daughter Sylvira (Mrs. Rinehart Ladwig)  who had preceded them in 1919. When young Jack reached the age for establishing his own home, he married Myrtle Dixon of the Appleton district but the marriage ended tragically when his wife died In childbirth, leaving a daughter Myrtle, now Mrs. Jules Werner of Edmonton.
   In 1932, Berniece Ames of Bezanson became the bride of Mr. Dorscheid and the couple were to welcome two sons, Larry and Jerry.
   Jack Dorscheid was one of the first in his district to respond to World War Two call to colours in 1940 when he enlisted in the Medical Corps, serving overseas until war's end in 1945.
   Back an the land once more, he continued to expand his growing agricultural enterprise, eventually building up his herd of some 300 head of beef cattle and operating six quarters as a mixed farming production.
But Jack Dorscheid's interests went far beyond his Crystal Creek community and the Glen Leslie district. When T.A. Warden's reelection to county council was upset by district court order on grounds of non residence, necessitating a new election for Div. I, Dorscheid won 194 voles over opponent Ed Coney's 109 votes, and the Crystal Creek community farmer was sworn in as county councillor when that body met for its July 1959 session.
Mr. Dorscheld, during the next six years until his resignation in 1965, was to serve as chairman for the Agricultural Service Board, was named to the school and municipal committees, county planning, hospital board and in addition, was named warden of East Smoky Park.
   In recent years both sons, well established with families of their own, have shared in the extensive farming and ranching enterprise.
   Eight grandchildren also survive. Beside his parents who died in 1939, brothers Arthur and Earl along with Charles who was killed in action, predeceased him.
   Services were held at St. Paul's United church. Rev. W.D. Waite officiating.
   Interment was in Glen Leslie cemetery family plot.
   Pallbearers included Keith Ladwig, Arnold Ladwig, Daniel Dorscheid, Darrel Doreclield, Herbert Kimble and Alfred Wales

DORSCHEID, Laura Myrtle (Dixon): June 7, 1907 - June 16, 1931 {also on Ames & Dorscheid grave stone page}

Laura Myrtle Dorscheid
   Mrs. J. G. Dorscheid
   Popular Young Lady, Victim Scarlet Fever
   Daughter of Pioneers and Bride of a Year Left Infant Daughter

     The entire community of the Grande Prairie district was shocked to learn of the sudden death of Laura Myrtle Dixon, beloved wife of John Eugene Dorscheid, of Glen Leslie, and eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Dixon of Grande Prairie.
     About a week before her death, Mrs. Dorscheid developed a severe case of scarlet fever, and in spite of all that medical aid could do, passed away early last Saturday morning.
     She was born at Nanaimo, B.C., on June 7th, 1907, but as a child immigrated with her parents in 1911 to the Peace River country via the now famous Edson Trail. The family settled on land about 6 miles south-west of Beaverlodge, and ten years late moved to Grande Prairie. Mrs. Dorscheid attended public school at Appleton, and later graduated from the Grande Prairie High School. She spent one term at the Vermilion school of Agriculture, and one at the Calgary Normal School, but most of her life was lived in the Grande Prairie district. She taught at the Wellington, Canuck and Crystal Creek public schools. It was while teaching at the latter school that a friendship developed which resulted in her marriage about a year ago to John Eugene Dorscheid, of Glen Leslie. As in her life at home, so in her married life, she was very happy, and was a model homemaker.
     Mrs. Dorscheid was a lover of nature, and particularly of the Peace River country. She was always at home in the wilds, as was evidenced by her ability shown on several pack-rail rips into the western hills. She had a gentle and loveable disposition which endeared her to young and old alike. And a wide circle of friends share the loss of her influence and friendship, with her husband and family.
     Mrs. Dorscheid is survived by her husband; an infant daughter (Myrtle Dixon), born during her last illness; two sisters, Hazel, of Kitscoty; and Marion; and one brother Arthur.
     The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon, with a service at the home of her parents, and interment was made at the Glen Leslie cemetery. A large concourse of friends thronged the lawn and boulevard at the Dixon home, where the service was conducted by the Rev. Nelson Chappel of Grande Prairie, assisted by Rev. J.E. McNeil, of Clairmont.
     The former spoke very highly of the esteem in which the deceased was held in the community, and expressed the sympathy that all felt for the bereaved. In closing his address the minister said to the congregation, “So live that your life will be as rich in the things that matter, and that you can come to its close here with as little regret, as the one whom we mourn for today.”
     Mr. J.W. Pickcard sang the solo, “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” very feelingly. Mr. F.W. Lloyd played the piano during the service.
     A large number made the journey to the cemetery, where the remains were interned in a grave lined with spruce boughs. The pall bearers were Garnet Pratt, Kenner Foy, Erle O’Brien, Newton Grimmett, Earl Bates, and Rupert Carveth.
     Many beautiful floral tributes testified to the esteem in which the deceased was held, and expressed sympathy for the bereaved.
