   James Henry Boyd, lifetime resident of Grande Prairie, paced away Tuesday, May 2, 2000 at the age of 75 years alter a lengthy illness.
   James was born June 28, 1924 in Grande Prairie and farmed in the Crystal Creek area. He as involved in coaching fastball and hockey. His biggest joy was watching his grandchildren in their activities.
   James is survived by; his loving wife of 50 years Doreen (nee Gillespie), son James Elmer Boyd (Karen Gummer) grandchildren Jason and Michelle, son Kelly Boyd (Kerry Nickerson), grandchildren Kaylene, Kristal and Kolby, daughter Nancy Weber (Blair), grandchildren Amanda, Nathan and Nicola, daughter Tammy O'Hallahan (Ross), grandchildren, Shea, Kelly, and Liam, brothers Don, Grant, Keith (Ruth), and Neil (Gwen).
   He was predeceased by his brother William and sister Mary.
   Memorial donations in James memory may he made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Kidney Association of Canada.
   Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2000 at 1 p.m. from St. Paul's United Church (10106-100 Ave) Grande Prairie with Rev. Vern Begalke officiating. Friends are invited to join the family at the Royal Canadian Legion (9912-101 Ave) at 2 p.m. for refreshments.
   Cremation has taken place.

  Today, we lost a ray of sunshine, Doreen Helen (Gillespie) Boyd age 91, of Grande Prairie, Alberta passed away on March 14, 2022.
   Doreen was predeceased by her parents Elmer and Mary Gillespie, her husband James Boyd, her sisters Olive Walters and Barbara Boyd, her brother Charlie Gillespie and her wonderful friend Bob Kimble.
   She is survived by her 4 children, Jim(Becky), Nancy(Louis), Kelly(Kerry), Tammy(Ross), her 13 grandchildren, Michelle(Will), Jason(Paula), Tyler, Travis, Amanda(John), Nathan, Nicola(Keegan), Kaylene(Steve), Kyrstal(Mack), Kolby(Neil), Shea(Levi), Kelly(Travis), Liam(Fraize), and 15 great grandchildren with one more on the way.
   As a young girl growing up at Hermit Lake, she was a great athlete playing softball and holding records for her running. After marriage, Jim and Doreen farmed in the Crystal Creek area for many years. Doreen was a great cook, renowned for her cinnamon buns. She was also an amazing knitter and seamstress, sewing countless graduation dresses and Halloween costumes over the years. Anything she put her mind to she did well.
   All her life she remained an avid sports fan and could quote statistics for her favourite NBA team the Raptors. She spent her last night watching curling on tv. The highlight of her life was her family. She was adored by her children and grandchldren who loved spending time with her. She has many friends who will feel the loss. It was a life well lived and she will be sorely missed.
   Her Celebration of Life will be held at the Oliver Funeral Home on April 16th at 1:00. There will be a light lunch to follow.
   In lieu of flowers the family asks you to make a donation to a charity of your choice.

   Glenn Herbert Ames passed away on October 5, 1975, at Grande Prairie at the age of 51 years. Mr. Ames was born at Bezanson, Alta, and had resided there except for the last 14 months of his life.
   He had been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Mr. Ames leaves to mourn his passing his wife Mavis, two sons, Randy of Calgary, Len of Grande Prairie, one daughter, Mrs. Bonny (Vic) Romaniuk of Grande Prairie and one brother Irving (Tyke) Ames of Bezanson, as well as one sister Mrs. Veryl (Tom) McEwen, of Grande Prairie. He was predeceased by his mother Thelma in 1973 and by his father George in 1966.
   Funeral services were held Thursday, October 9 1975, at 2 p.m. from the Oliver Funeral Chapel in Grande Prairie with Rev. Lou River officiating, interment followed in Glenn Leslie Cemetery.
   Arrangements were by the Oliver Funeral Chapel.

Mavis Maude (Boyd) Ames
   Mavis passed away peacefully at the age of 85.
   She was predeceased by her husband, Glenn, and leaves to mourn her children Randy (Pat), Lenny (Donna) and Bonny. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren, sisters Iris and Corene and brother, Harmon.
   A graveside service will be held at the Glen Leslie Cemetery Monday, December 28 at 2:00 pm. Following the service friends and family are invited to join us for a time of fellowship at Oliver Funeral Home

    In Loving Memory of Corinne (Boyd) Rutberg. Sunrise: May 6, 1927 Sunset: January 3, 2017 On January 3, 2017 Corinne passed away at the Grande Prairie Care Centre at the age of 89. Mom was born May 6, 1927 in her childhood home at the family farm in Crystal Creek, Alberta. In 1949 she married the love of her life, Bill Rutberg. Together they had four children. They lived in a little house in Grande Prairie; and in 1961 they moved to an acreage close to Mom’s childhood home. Our family went on to love the country life. We made lifetime memories and friends with all of our neighbours, who showed their love in many ways. We will lovingly remember Mom’s devotion and her unconditional love towards her husband and her children. We will be forever grateful. Corinne is survived by her sons Dennis (Carol Ann) and Rod (Debbie); her daughter, Judy (Barry); her nine grand-children and many great-grandchildren; her sister, Iris Nelson (Bert); and her brother, Harmon Boyd. Corinne is predeceased by her husband, Bill; son, Gary; parents, Fred and Faye; Sister, Mavis; brother, Marshall; and great-grandson, Avery.
   As Mom had requested there will be no funeral service. The family would like to extend many heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Grande Prairie Care Centre for their compassion and care. Thank you for loving our mom. Thank you to Dr. Zumani and to Dr. Iziguzo. God saw mom getting tired so he whispered, "Come to Me."

William J. Rutberg, 68, of Grande Prairie
   William J. Rutberg, lifetime resident of Grande Prairie, passed away October 31, 1996 after a courageous battle with cancer. Bill was born in 1928 in Vulcan, Alta. He moved to Huallen in 1930 with his parents and sister Nima (Dick) Kirkpatrick. In 1949 Bill married Corene Boyd.

   He leaves to mourn two sons; Dennis Rutberg (Carol-ann), of Grande Prairie; Rod Rutberg (Debbie), of Grande Prairie, Aka.; daughter Judy (Barry) McRann, of Kamloops, B.C.; grandchildren Wayne, Randy, Gary, Corey, Kim, Maurey, Dustin, Darren, Jamie; great-grandchildren Taylor and Tyler Nicolay, Keandra and Taylor Grayson.
   Bill was predeceased by his mother Anne, in 1950, son Gary in 1974 and his father Chris in 1990.
   Bill was a master of all trades and especially loved crane operating, his favorite was "Old Blue". A prayer service will be held tonight, Friday, November 1, 1996 at 7:30 p.m. from the Oliver Grande Prairie Funeral Chapel, 10005-107 Avenue, Grande Prairie. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 2, 10 a.m. from the Funeral Home, with Cannon Isaac Graham officiating. Interment to follow in the Glen-Leslie Cemetery.
   In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the QE II Cancer Clinic or to the Palliative Care Program 3 North would be greatly appreciated.

   Thomas Arnew Hillman passed away at Grande Prairie on Monday, Oct. 5, 1981, at the age of 83 years.
   He was born at Tillsbury, Ont. He moved to Alberta with his parents in 1903, and homesteaded in the Bonnyville area. He moved to Spirit River in 1955, where he resided until 18 years ago when he moved to Grande Prairie where he has since resided.
   He is survived by his loving wife, Rose (Boyd); two stepsons: Miles Marcy and Lyall Marcy, both of Grande Prairie; and a step daughter : Joyce (Ken) Parks of Vernon, B.C.; sister in law Verna Mills of Regina, Sask.; 14 grandchildren: and 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Wilfred, of Edmonton; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five brothers and a sister.
   Funeral service for the late Thomas Arnew Hillman will be held at the Oliver Funeral Chapel on Friday, October 9, 1981, at 2 p.m., with Father Glen Burgomaster officiating. Interment to follow at the Glen Leslie Cemetery.

Rose G. Hillman, 93, of Grande Prairie
   On Tuesday August 13, 1996 Rose Hillman (Marcy) longtime resident of Grande Prairie and Spirit River passed away at Mackenzie Place at the age of 93 years. Rose was born March 21, 1903 at Arundle, Quebec.
   Together Rose and Donald Marcy farmed and raised their family in the Crystal Creek area for 26 years. Donald passed away in 1947 and she continued to live on the family farm for the next five years. She then met Thomas Hillman and in 1952 they were married, eventually settling in Spirit River where they owned and operated a bulk dealership and service station, Later they retired and moved to Grande Prairie.
   Rose was the youngest and last out of her family of 12 to survive, Rose is survived by three children: Miles (Marion) Marcy of Grande Prairie, Alberta, Lyall Marcy of Grande Prairie, Alberta and Joyce (Ken) Parks of Vernon, BC; 14 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
   She was predeceased by her first husband Donald in 1947, second husband in 1981, six brothers and five sisters.
   Funeral service for the late Rose Hillman (Marcy) will he held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday August 16, 1996 at Oliver's Grande Prairie Funeral Chapel, 10005-107 Avenue, Grande Prairie, Alberta with Rev. Canon Isaac Graham of Christ Church Anglican officiating. Interment to follow at Glen Leslie Cemetery.
   Visitation for family and friends will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, August IS, 1996 at Oliver's Grande Prairie Funeral Chapel.
   Memorial donations in lieu of flowers made to Mackenzie Place Resident Council would be greatly appreciated by the family. Special thanks to nurses and staff at Mackenzie Place, Q.E. II Hospital, Grande Prairie Care Centre and Heritage Lodge.
