Jeanett Wales Mrs. Jennett Wa1es a resident of Grande Prairie, died in hospital here Thursday. She was 48 years old. Mrs. Wales was born in McGrath, Alta, Jan. 18, 1917, and lived in Grande Prairie for a number of years She is survived by her husband Charles Edmund Wales of Grande Prairie. Charles Edmund Wales Another pioneer of the Grande Prairie area has passed away. Charles Edmund Wales died peacefully in his sleep last Wednesday afternoon on the 11th of May 2016. Charles was born in a log house on his parents' homestead in Glen Leslie, AB. The second child of Ross and Ann (Moon) Wales, Charles spent his entire long life in the Grande Prairie area. He married Jennett Laura Andersen in 1938. Together they had five daughters: Marilyn of Edmonton, Joan (Michael) Demaine of Sherwood Park, Joyce of Grande Prairie, Sharon (John) Christie of Trochu, and Debbie (Trever Sekulich) of High Prairie. Following the death of Jennett in 1965, Charles married Alta (Andersen) [Peterson]. Charles had a varied career as a farmer, sawmill sawyer, cat skinner, carpenter, mechanic, welder, wood worker, gardener, and volunteer extraordinaire. He had many interests, including travel, family and friends, history, collecting old tools, and telling tall tales and jokes. He loved golf and was a fervent fan of the Toronto Blue Jays. Left to mourn his loss are his sister Elizabeth McLaughlin, his daughters, his step-son Terrance Peterson and his wife Mina, his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives, friends, and neighbours. Charles was predeceased by his parents; his brothers: Alfred and John "Jack" Wales; Jennett and Alta Wales; his step-son Wayne Peterson and his son in-law, Michael Demaine. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2016, at 2:00pm, at Oliver's Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.), followed by a luncheon. Charles's ashes will be buried at the Glen Leslie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (#229, 9804 100 Ave., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 0T8), or to a charity of your choice. Alta Wales On Friday, August 13, 2004, Alta Elnora Wales (nee Peterson), resident of Grande Prairie, Passed away at Mackenzie Place at the age of 92 years. She was born on August 30, 1911 in Magrath, Alberta. Alta is survived by her husband Charles Wales, Son Terry (Mina) Peterson of Valleyview, Alberta, stepdaughters Marilyn Wales of Edmonton, Alberta, Joan (Michael) Demaine of Sherwood Park, Alberta. Alfred Ross Wales, 84, of Grande Prairie Alfred Ross Wales, lifetime resident of Grande Prairie, Alta., passed away on Friday, March 20, 1998 at the QE II Hospital in Grande Prairie at the age of 84 years. Alfred was Born and lived his entire life journey in the Glen Leslie area. He touched many lives with his helping hands and kind and gentle way. He had an infectious appreciation for mother nature. Alfred farmed on the family farm his entire life, growing grain and raising cattle. His greatest joy was his family and friends which he kept close to his heart. He always found pleasure in a good days work. He was horn September 14, 1913 to Ross and Annie Wales. He married Violet Kimble in 1939. Together they had four children: Eleanor (Brian) McCurdy of Grande Prairie, Jerry (Laurie) Wales of Grande Prairie, Herb (Lil) Wales of Vernon and Judy Wales of Edmonton. He had 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Charles Wales and sister Elizabeth McLaughlain as well as many nieces and nephews. Alfred was predeceased by his parents Ross and Annie Wales, brother Jack Wales, father-in-law Herman Kimble, mother-in-law Sylvira Ladwig, sisters-in-law Florence Wales and Jeanette Wales. Alfred's life was an inspiration for us all. His desire to live a good honest life was reflected in all he did. He always appreciated the small things in life, and the new life abound in the spring. His presence will be forever remembered and missed by all his family and friends. We shall remember his smile with every ray of sun as he smiles down upon us from above. The breeze from his angel wings that he earned many times over during his stay here with us. Till we meet again. Violet Emma Wales, 95, of Grande Prairie It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Violet Emma Wales. Violet was born December 16, 1919 and passed away May 29, 2015 at the age of 95 years surrounded by her adoring family. Violet was a lifelong resident of Grande Prairie. She was born on the family homestead in the Crystal Creek area. She was born the 2nd of 6 children to Sylvira (Dorscheid) and Herman Kimble. Violet attended school at the Crystal Creek County School. Violet met Alfred Ross Wales in the community and they married December 18, 1939. They farmed in the Glen Leslie area their entire working years, remaining on the farm until 1996. They were blessed with 4 children: Eleanor, Jerry, Herb and Judy. Violet is survived by her children: Eleanor McCurdy, Jerry (Laurie), Judy Wales, 12 Grandchildren, 17 Great Grandchildren, 8 Great Great Grandchildren, Brother – Bobby Kimble, Sisters-In-Laws: Jean Kimble, Louise Kimble, Anne Kimble, Betty McLaughlin and Brother-In-Law – Charlie Wales, Dear friend and care giver – Alice Hickson. As well as a large number of extended family and friends. Violet was pre-deceased by husband – Alfred Wales, son – Herb Wales, Son-In-Law – Brian McCurdy, Sister – Elaine Osborne, Brothers – Herman, Herbert and Ellsworth Kimble, Brothers-In-Laws – Jack Wales, Tom Osborne and Neil McLaughlin, Sisters-In-Laws – Jeanette Wales, Alta Wales, Florence Wales and Stella Kimble. Anna Wales Anna Wales passed away on July 14, 1972 at the age of 88 years. She was born at Moonstone, Ontario and has been a resident of Grande Prairie and Glenn Leslie for a number of years. She leaves to mourn her passing three sons, Alfred of Glenn Leslie, Charles of Grande Prairie. Jack of Glenn Leslie, one daughter, Mrs. Betty McLaughlin of Glenn Leslie. 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers, Norman Moon of Grande Prairie and Alf Moon of Glenn Leslie. Susan Myrtle Jane Moon Mrs. Susan Myrtle Jane Moon passed away at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital, Grande Prairie, Alberta, on Tuesday, April 29, 1986, at the age of 85. She was born at Omagh, Ontario, and came to the Peace River Country in 1913. Mrs. Moon had resided in the Glen Leslie area until 1974, when she and her husband moved to Grande Prairie. They celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary in 1984. She is survived by her husband, Alfred; sons and daughters: Alice (Art) Valgardson of Taber, Jim (Marion) Moon of Edmonton, Neil (Gayle) Moon of Grande Prairie, Jean Boyd of Grande Prairie; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Mae Fitzpatrick of Grande Prairie. Alfred A. Moon Mr. Alfred A. Moon passed away on January 13. 1989. at Mackenzie Place, Grande Prairie, Alberta, at the age of 92. He was born on February 18, 1896, in Medonte Township, Simcoe County, Ontario. He came with his family in 1904 to Edmonton, Alberta, and resided in Edmonton until 1913. At the age of 17. Alfred walked the Edson Trail to the Glen Leslie area, where he homesteaded. Alfred went to war in 1918, for a year, returning to Glen Leslie in 1919 to continue farming. In 1974 Alfred retired and moved to Grande Prairie. In 1984 Alfred and Myrtle moved to Heritage lodge and in 1985, to the Auxiliary Hospital. In May 1986, Alfred moved to Mackenzie Place, where he resided until his passing. He is survived by his children Alice (Art) Valgardson of Taber. Alberta, Jim (Marion) Moon of Edmonton, Alberta, Neil (Gayle) Moon of Grande Prairie, Alberta, Jean Boyd of Grande Prairie, Alberta: 16 grandchildren: 17 great-grandchildren: and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Myrtle on 1956; parents, Charles and Elizabeth: 6 brothers and their spouses, Norman (Gladys), Peter (Katherine), Robert (Jean), Charles (Pearl), Fred (Betty) and one infant brother; sisters and their spouses. Neil Emerson McLaughlin Funeral service for local veteran Neil Emerson McLaughlin, 55 year old Grande Prairie farmer, passed away in the Grande Prairie hospital May 23, 1969. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ira McLaughlin, M.L.A. of the Grande Prairie constituency. Born in Grenfell, Saskatchewan, he married in 1940 and served in the air force between 1941 and 1945. He was a member of the Canadian Legion and Masonic Lodge. Funeral services were held, in the Grande Prairie St. Paul's United Church May 26, at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. D. Waite officiating. Burial followed in the Glen Leslie Cemetery, 14 miles east of Grande Prairie near the McLaughlin farm. Mr. McLaughlin is survived by his wife Elizabeth, his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Ira McLaughlin, two sons Ross and Bill and three daughters Bonnie, who is still at home Gail Forster and Aileen Bayley, There are two brothers, three sisters and four grandchildren. Elizabeth “Betty” Alice
McLaughlin Betty was born February 26, 1919 to Glen Leslie pioneers Ross and Annie Wales and raised in a log house on the Wales’ farm. Betty Wales met Neil McLaughlin as a teenager and married him at the age of 21 in 1940, and lost him in 1969. A lifetime Grande Prairie resident, Betty lived at the Wild Rose Villa/Manor for the last 15 years. Betty was a remarkable woman. She was the epitome of love: love for her family, love for her friends, and love for humankind, with no judgment from her. She made everyone feel welcome and comfortable. Retorts were the norm with her quick wit and sense of humour. She will be sadly missed by her children: Aileen (Gordon) Bayley, Ross (Nancy) McLaughlin, Gail (Richard) Forster, Bill (Jocelyn) McLaughlin, and Bonnie (Duane) LaValley; 14 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 8 great great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents Ross and Annie Wales; husband Neil McLaughlin; brothers: Alfred, Charlie and Jack; and numerous other family members.
